In Trévé, Jeanne Grascoeur Brings Fashion on the Go

This weekend, Jeanne Grascoeur is participating in the International Fashion Designers Competition in Dinan. The young woman, originally from Trévé, hopes it will be a springboard to promote her creations and her brand, Hooked.

Since Friday, October 4, and until Sunday, Jeanne Grascoeur has been in Dinan competing in the International Fashion Designers Competition. It’s a remarkable achievement for this 23-year-old from Trévé, as only ten candidates out of 150 passed the various selection stages of the Dinan competition. “We had to submit a comprehensive portfolio showcasing a collection, which was judged by professionals, including the couturier and jury president, Stéphane Rolland,” explains Jeanne Grascoeur. The stakes are high, as the winner will have the opportunity to create a collection for a brand—an incredible stepping stone for an aspiring designer or model maker. “That’s my goal,” says Jeanne eagerly.

Passionate About Clothing Recycling

Yet, as a child, she never dreamed of fashion. Her interest was sparked quite by accident and relatively late. “Honestly, I never thought about fashion; I wanted to prepare to become a speech therapist,” she admits. “It was when I went to the Suparmor student fair in Saint-Brieuc that I discovered fashion schools like ESMOD, LISAA, and MJM in Rennes. On instinct, I applied even though I didn’t know how to sew or draw. All I needed was to present a creative portfolio and show a lot of motivation during the interview.”

She passed her economics and social sciences high school diploma (Bac ES) and was accepted at ESMOD Rennes to earn a Bachelor’s degree in fashion design and model making. “At this school, I truly found myself and discovered my artistic world,” she says. Her world centers around upcycling. “I’m passionate about recycling clothing, sourcing my materials directly from thrift stores or places like Emmaus.”

She Dressed MC Solaar’s Dancers for Star Academy

During her studies (third year in Paris), she gained extensive experience through internships and jobs. Her most notable achievement? Creating a clothing collection for the dancers who accompanied MC Solaar during his appearance on Star Academy last January. “I also work with rappers and was an assistant artistic director for the fashion house Apostrophe in Paris,” she adds.

She launched her brand, Hooked, in her third year of studies with her first collection. “It went quite well, and I even dressed models for Paris Fashion Week,” she continues. This weekend in Dinan, she hopes to take her work to the next level with the collection she’s presenting, a blend of 1970s vintage and today’s fashion. The competition results will be announced on Saturday evening.
